Young Life Never Ends

Posted May 2nd, 2012 in Richardson by Todd

What a full and fun year of clubs at Richardson High School!  There was no better way to end the year than tacky prom on senior night.  We kicked off the night with a big dance party and the fun did not stop until after everyone left the building.  We retired the senior shirt, went down memory lane with a senior slide show, sang some favorite Young Life songs one last time and had a chance to hear from some of the seniors about their favorite memories and how God worked in their lives through the ministry of Young Life.  Although club is over for the year, the ministry of Young Life is still going strong and we will continue to share our lives with our high school friends and try and reach more kids with the good news of Jesus Christ!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a picture of our entire club all dressed up, but here are a few pictures that were snapped throughout the night!

Moving into the Neighborhood

Posted April 18th, 2012 in Richardson by Todd

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us…”

This is a verse that I have been reminded of over the last several weeks as me and my wife have settled in to our new home.  I can remeber someone explaining this verse to me saying, “God wrapped Himself in human flesh and came to earth. He literally moved into the neighborhood!”  Although nothing could compare to the Incarnation (God becoming man), this is one things that motivates us as young life leaders to keep showing up where kids are!  The reason this verse comes to mind is that our new home is right across the street from Richardson High School, we literally moved in to the neighborhood and it has been awesome!  I have been able to stand in my front yard and pray for students that were right across the street and sit on the back porch talking to kids as they walk to and from school.  Moving in to the neighborhood has already provided new ministry opportunities and we look forward to many more in the future!

The Power of Prayer is Pure

Posted March 27th, 2012 in Richardson by Todd

This past Sunday two senior guys came to church with me because an old volunteer leader was preaching.  After church these two guys joined me and some friends for lunch as we shared stories and talked about what had been going on in our lives lately.  It just so happened that we got on the topic of how prayer really does work.  A few of the guys shared some personal stories of how they have experienced this recently in their lives.  I was not sure how these two senior guys were going to respond to all of this but I was blown away after lunch.  One of the guys asked me what the guy meant when he said he shared the gospel with someone, was he referring to a particular set of scripture or what?  We got to talk through what the gospel is again, “That Christ died for our sins..he was buried..he was raised on the third day”!

The day ended and just a few hours later he popped up on my tweeter feed and this is what he said…

“A day that changed my life, the power of prayer is pure. Who gives me strength and brings me light? Christ”
God is changing students lives all over Richardson through the simple yet powerful message of the Gospel. Prayer is powerful!

All Metro Young Life

All Metro Young Life

Last night, close to 700 kids gathered from Allen, Sherman, Lovejoy, Plano, Frisco and Richardson for the annual All Metro Young Life Club.
It was a goal to be the biggest Young Life club in the country on Monday night, and I think we succeeded! Kids from all over the metroplex showed up to be a part of the fun! We sang loud songs, played games in the party cage with the rabbit and the hamster, and at the end of the night got to hear from Nick Manos, the Dallas Regional Director! Nick spoke about our desire to be known. How we were made for relationships, and made in the image of God. He shared the account in the bible about the leper. How Jesus reached out and touched the leper when no one else would. He encouraged kids to think about what Jesus would say to them right now in their life. He encouraged to kids to go to Jesus because Jesus longs to know them right where they are! And He cares and wants a relationship with them!
It was a fun night-and fun to get to be with kids from all over the metro-plex!
See video below to see 700 kids singing We are Young-

Mustache Club

Posted March 8th, 2012 in Richardson by Todd
Monday night was our first ever mustache club!  Seniors lead the charge Monday night as students showed up with the very best mustaches they could find.  The night was full of mustaches, laughing, pies in the face and students hanging out well after club had ended.  My favorite part of the night was after club looking around the room seeing leaders sharing their lives with kids.

“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8

It would have been really easy for the volunteer leaders to pack up and head home after working all day and hanging out at club but it was really cool to see them laughing and hanging out with their high school friends.  Here are some pictures of some kids and leaders before and after club!

God is at work at RHS

Posted February 17th, 2012 in Richardson by Todd

The spring semester has kicked off and some really cool things are happening at RHS. We had camp sign-up night back in December and had 40 spots open to Frontier Ranch.  We only have 5 open spots left!

On February 27th we will be having wilderness sign-up night starting at 6:30.  We only have 12 spots for wilderness!

One of the coolest things that we have seen over the last several months is a group of about 6 students that began a relationship with God through Young Life, and are now regularly attending a local church.  Here is a picture of a few of these students after church on a rooftop hanging out and praying together. We are so thankful to be a part of what God is doing here at RHS!

Camp Money

Posted February 14th, 2012 in Berkner, Multicultural, Pearce, RAYL, Richardson, WyldLife by Todd

So there’s been some confusion in past years about camp money! We’re here to set the record straight and hopefully provide clearer understanding for you and your student.

Myth: “So… We’ve heard there is a scholarship fund for campers that need money”
Fact: There are no “scholarships” (free money) available for campers. You mean work is involved? YES, but don’t worry! It is really fun and it is with your Young Life friends, leaders and staff. So a fun time is guaranteed!

Myth: “So if my child has to work, can he/she just work off the entire camp cost?”
Fact: There are a lot of students that need help getting to camp this summer. We ask that you pay all that you can (without sacrificing on your bills, food, and other necessities) and we are committed to helping find work for your kid to earn the rest of their way there.

Yep. You heard right. We are COMMITTED to helping your kid get to camp!
You do you part, we will do ours and your kid is certain to have the best week of their lives.

YL Christmas Party

Posted December 18th, 2011 in Berkner, Multicultural, Pearce, RAYL, Richardson, WyldLife by Todd

It is always special to have our entire Richardson Area Young Life family (committee, leaders and staff) together to celebrate Christ’s birth. From incredible food to fun games and great conversation, the night is one to remember. We couldn’t begin to thank everyone that played a critical role in making the night all that it was. So we will say “Thank You” to committee and the friends of Young Life that spent countless hours making sure the details of the night were just right! It was a night like none other!

Here are a few pictures from the night:

Thanksgiving at the Heberts!

Posted November 29th, 2011 in Richardson by Todd

Over the past few weeks club has been lots of fun and some really cool things are happening at RHS.  One of the coolest things took place over the break. During the thanksgiving break we got to have “family dinner” with some of our campaigner kids!  Students brought their favorite dish and we had so many different things to choose from.  We had 30 people packed in to our apartment and had such a fun night.  We all got to eat together, play games together and laugh together! It was an incredible night and am very thankful for what God is doing in Richardson!
