Though this world is a broken place…

Posted November 10th, 2011 in Berkner by Todd

We had a great YL club on Monday night. Lots of kids showed up despite it being the week after homecoming and a giant rain storm that hit Richardson right when club was starting!

Kate got the chance to speak on the bleeding woman on Monday night. How in that crowd of people, not many people knew her pain. But one touch from Jesus changed everything for her. Kate talked about how many of us are like that woman, trying to act like we have it all together, but most of us are struggling with hurt and pain from this world. Kate asked kids to think about where they go to when this world hurts. And are those things we run to fixing the problem?

Though this world is a broken place, there is God who loves us just as we are and wants a relationship with us! He wants to be our healer.

Next week we will be playing dodgeball at DBC! Its been such a fun semester with Berkner Young Life.

Rangers + Young Life= WIN

Last night Richardson and Berkner Young Life had a huge Rangers watching party!! Kids got to hang out at The Heights eating hotdogs, playing games and watching the Rangers on the big screen. It was a super fun night of kids and leaders hanging out. This is what Young Life is all about – life together!
Next week, club is back on for Richardson, Club and Grub and Berkner High Schools at their regular places and times! Its halloween, so rock out your best costume and look forward to a really fun night!!!

Pajama Club

Posted October 19th, 2011 in Berkner by Todd

Berkner had its 3rd annual “Pajama Club” this past monday night! Kids had a blast wearing their pj’s and running around playing games and mixers. Girls from each grade battled it out to see who could crack eggs on the heads of guys using a raw fish. It was pretty hilarious. Flapjack Johnny made a special appearance throwing out pancakes to anyone who wanted them all through out club.

Volunteer leader Nathan Quinn spoke on Monday night and got to share with kids that Jesus is one who pursues us and will stop at nothing. He spoke about the woman at the well, who was looking for life in all the wrong places- and how Jesus had something to offer her that would never let her down. And how Jesus wants to offer all of us that same thing!
It was a great night!

Berkner’s First Club of the Year = Greatness

Posted September 20th, 2011 in Berkner by Todd
We had a TON of kids last night at Berkner’s first club of the year! The senior class did an outstanding job getting people there and setting the tone for Young Life this year. They brought the party. One senior won the prize for bringing the most freshmen- he brought 24!!
We jumped around, screamed songs at the top of our lungs, and freshmen guys and senior girls got to be a part of our annual “kissing skit”. Another highlight of the night was some special visitors from the Swamp Billy Swag guys who lead us in our game!
To bring the night to a close, I got to share about first impressions- and how many people in the room maybe have had a bad first impression of God. I told kids that this semester, we were going to take a look at God, his son Jesus, things He did, and how knowing the God who created us and we were meant for a relationship with can change everything. I challenged kids to throw out those bad first impressions and to start fresh with us. I promised to be honest with them, and to be a part of their lives. I told kids that there is a God, and that He created everything! I got to tell kids that not only did God create everything- but he created them and was CRAZY about them.
Can’t wait to see the fun that next week will bring!

Young Life kicks off at Berkner!

Posted September 13th, 2011 in Berkner by Todd

Last night Berkner had their Young Life kickoff meeting! Kids got together to shoepolish cars, buy this years t-shirt and talk about how we were going to make this year a year to remember! After hearing hilarious stories from people’s first club experiences, and the first time they came to Young Life, it was realized that everyone in the room got to Young Life for the first time because of a personal invite, or a friend or classmate physically bringing them. Kids were then challenged to think of who they would bring for the first club next week! There is an excitement in the air for next week! First club starts at 729pm on September 19th

We are excited for a great, fun and crazy year of Young Life. You never know what God is going to do!

Berkner Seniors Ready to Leave a Legacy

Posted September 2nd, 2011 in Berkner by Todd
This past monday night, 25 seniors from Berkner gathered to talk about Young Life at Berkner High School this year. Leaders got a chance to pull back the curtain on Young Life and share with seniors why we do things the way we do at Young Life. We challenged seniors to leave a legacy on their school this year. We asked these folks to step up, be leaders at their schools and make Young Life the place to be. The group left the night pumped for what lies ahead! We are so excited about what is in store for this year with Young Life at Berkner High School.

Berkner Rocked Frontier Ranch

Posted August 30th, 2011 in Berkner by Todd
Berkner Young Life took 50 students and 8 leaders to Frontier Ranch this summer for the “best week of kids lives” We had a fantastic week in the Colorado mountains playing volleyball, swimming, rappelling, riding horses, and all kinds of other crazy things. Most importantly kids got to hear the speaker talk about God every night in a way that was clear and made sense to them. Many kids began a relationship with Jesus this week. It truly was an unforgettable week. Below are some pictures of our week!
