Unfortunately, we didn’t get a picture of our entire club all dressed up, but here are a few pictures that were snapped throughout the night!

Last night I got the chance to speak at the last Young Life club of the year. I wanted to make a top ten list of things to tell seniors. But I realized 10 things might be a lot….so instead I did a top 7 list. Seven things I wanted to tell them before they headed off on a new chapter and don’t get to come hear me talk every Monday. Haha. No but seriously.

So here they are:

7. A lot of effort to be good, but it only takes a little more effort to be GREAT.

God made you uniquely you. Don’t be wishing that you were the person next to you. Be the best you that you can be. He gifted you with specific gifts. And he wants you to use those gifts! Don’t settle for mediocrity, strive to be great in the areas he gifted you. Work Hard.

6. Your plan and picture for your life wont be what it is.

“In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps” Proverbs 16:9

Case in point: My life is not what I had planned for myself. But God had a better plan for it. When things don’t go the way you planned, don’t stress. Its ok, God is in control (and He is a lot smarter than us J )

5. With number 6 comes number 5… Don’t take yourself so seriously

Life is going to happen. You will be thrown curveballs

Rely on Him for strength. He’s got all that you need.

4. Words hurt. How you treat people is important.

You will come into contact with people who are hard for you. You have the choice to love them. People will hurt you. You can hurt them back or offer forgiveness. Know the power that your words have on someone else. Forgiveness is always better

3. Community is important. Get plugged in with people you respect. Stay away from people who are destructive. If you are trying to follow Jesus, you gotta be a part of a community that wants to do that to. You will die on your own. We were meant to live in community with other people. If you don’t like your group now, guess what? Choose better this upcoming year.

2. Jesus loves you exactly where you are. And He loves you because He loves you. Let me say that again. He loves you because he loves you. Nothing you’ve done. He knows you. Knows where you’ve been. Knows your thoughts, and hopes and dreams.

But he doesn’t want you to stay there. He wants to live with you, walk with you.

1. Life is found in HIM and Him alone. You can look for life in other places and it might work for a while…but soon enough youll be feeling empty and alone.

Happiness is not found in success…its found in Christ

You were created for a purpose.

John 10:10 says that Jesus came to give you ABUNDANT life. You find that abundant life in Him.

Very thankful for our seniors and will be praying that in the new chapter they will put Christ first and trust His plan for their lives!

I held up my green worn backpack in front of my high school friends,
and the weight of the rocks it held inside pulled the straps tight.

“Each of us carry burdens in our lives. We try to hide the weight
behind plastered smiles or in secret bags that we drag behind us.”
I pulled out the rocks, the words lonely, fear of future, others
expectations, insecure, and failure, were scrawled in black sharpie. I
held them up and let each fall the floor with a crash. These rocks
represented the burdens I have struggled to carry over the past year.
But Jesus has not called me to carry by burdens alone. He has called
all of those who are weary and heavy laden to come and he will take on
the load we bear. He has called us to come and rest. I encouraged the
students to think about what burdens they fumble with and hide. What
would be written on your rock?

One by one my high school friends got up and put their rocks in the
green backpack lying at the center of the room. Each rock fell heavy
onto the next- heavy with its physical weight, and with the weight of
what they represented. I am thankful that because Jesus gave His life
for me, I no longer have to carry my rocks. I pray that as we finish
up the semester and our students carry sometimes-unbearable loads they
would turn to the only One who has already taken on their burdens.

Pearce club was neon and black lights on Monday night. The crowd went crazy as Raising Project led music and the Panama City boys brought in some laughs. The mixer involved covering up the entire side of the room in paper, then having an upperclassmen vs underclassmen paper war. It was a blast. Kids also competed to see which grade could shoot more glow in the dark q tips through a straw into bucket.

The night ended with Austin, senior president, sharing with his friends how we sometimes go through the motions of what the bible says without understanding the meaning, just like we often do when reciting the pledge. Then he shared how his life has changed dramatically when he began to understand the Bible through his campaigners group. You could hear a pin drop as the group listened. God was definitely at work!

Thanks for all your prayers and support.

Last night senior Jake Murphy spoke at Young Life club. I love when students get a chance to speak at club because it really shows kids that following Christ in High School is a reality.

Jake shared that he had spent most of his life trying to be the “conductor” of the symphony of his life.

He said his life only made sense when He handed the baton over to Jesus.

He got to tell his fellow peers that he wasnt perfect, but God was good and loving and wanted him (and them) just where they were.

He said many times people seem to be happy eating Cheerios, when God has a marinated steak waiting for them. (I thought that was such a clever analogy)

The verse Jake shared was this one from Deuteronomy 6:5

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

He said that God wants all of you. He wants to be in charge of your whole life, not just parts of it.

Kids listened intently to Jake last night. Jake is an example of Christ for his peers at Berkner High School by the way he lives his life and the way he serves others.

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us…”

This is a verse that I have been reminded of over the last several weeks as me and my wife have settled in to our new home. I can remeber someone explaining this verse to me saying, “God wrapped Himself in human flesh and came to earth. He literally moved into the neighborhood!” Although nothing could compare to the Incarnation (God becoming man), this is one things that motivates us as young life leaders to keep showing up where kids are! The reason this verse comes to mind is that our new home is right across the street from Richardson High School, we literally moved in to the neighborhood and it has been awesome! I have been able to stand in my front yard and pray for students that were right across the street and sit on the back porch talking to kids as they walk to and from school. Moving in to the neighborhood has already provided new ministry opportunities and we look forward to many more in the future!

In honor of the NCAA Men’s basketball championship, Richardson decided
to take part in a little March Madness of our own. Basketballs bounced
in every direction, as music blared and kids chowed down on hotdogs in
the parking lot on Monday night.
The night consisted of a giant game of knockout, a twelve team 4-on-4
tournament, and a short watch party.

We took a break from hoops to listen to Travis tell us about Zacchaeus
and Jesus. He shared how Jesus called Zacchaeus down from the tree to
hang out even when everyone else hated him and rejected him. Christ
didn’t tell him to clean up his act, or to get better. Jesus wanted
Zacchaeus, at that moment, along with his junk and baggage. Regardless
of our past or reputation, along with our secrets, Jesus also wants
us, just like we are.

Monday night brought out an energetic crowd to YL for the guys to compete in the dunk contest and girls in a knockout competition. It was a great night with lots of laughs. One of our leaders, Omar, shared with the group at the end about how God wants to use them for great things and about how his life took on purpose when he realizes that fact.
